MANAYUNK, PHILADELPHIA — A Manayunk bar where Roxborough native Shane Montgomery was drinking before his 2014 drowning death in the Schuylkill River was ordered to pay more than half a million dollars in damages to his family, according to Philly.com

The outlet reports Kildare's, which closed in 2016, must pay $525,000 to Montgomery's family, per a civil court jury's decision.

The jury ruled Montgomery's death partly stemmed form Kildare’s serving him while he was visibly intoxicated, according to Philly.com.

Philly.com reports the jury said Montgomery bears most of the blame for his death and did not find negligence on the part of two Kildare's bouncers and its director of operations in connection with the death.

The suit alleged Kildare's and the workers broke Pennsylvania law by serving him even as he was visibly intoxicated. It also alleged the establishment was negligent in kicking him out without trying to find his friends or calling him a taxi.
