Modell's Closing Philadelphia Stores Amid Bankruptcy Filing
The popular sporting goods and clothing store is closing all its locations as it files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

PHILADELPHIA — Modell's Sporting Goods is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and that means all locations, including those in Philadelphia, are closing.
The company announced Wednesday it filed for relief under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey.
"Over the past year, we evaluated several options to restructure our business to allow us to maintain our current operations," Modell’s Chief Executive Officer, Mitchell Modell, said. "While we achieved some success, in partnership with our landlords and vendors, it was not enough to avoid a bankruptcy filing amid an extremely challenging environment for retailers."
