Mugshots Saying Goodbye to Manayunk

The coffee shop is set to close in early September.

has been a Manayunk staple in the community for over five years. But, like they say, all good things must come to an end.

The shop is leaving Main Street and headed to Temple University's campus in the International student dorm lobby that is home to more than 600 students.

The new location, at the corner of 1520 Sydenham Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue, will join the other chains of Mugshot coffee shops such as Fairmount and Brewerytown.

"It is tough being on the side street. We have no advantage of walking traffic," Owner Angie Vendetti said of the current location.

But Vendetti is already nostalgic about the Manayunk closing.

"We will miss the place... and the drive from Fairmount on Kelly Drive is beautiful," she said.

But this may not be the final goodbye.

"If the right opportunity comes up, maybe we can rejoin the community. The side street space is challenging. When closed, we picked up their business. But there is not enough room in Manayunk for four coffee shops and a new smoothie yogurt shop," Vendetti said. "The space was attractive because Grassroots was already there and there was little renovation cost."

The future of the space is still unknown.

"I had one call about the place but nothing set in stone. Perhaps it will be an organic sandwich shop with healthy salads," she said.

Vendetti may have a farewell party so members of the community can say adieu to their local coffee shop.

"We haven't planned a farewell party yet, but by the end of next week we will have a better timeline," she said.
