Pennsylvania Man Drowns At N.J. Beach
The 73-year-old Germantown man had a summer home in Long Beach Township, N.J., authorities say.

A Pennsylvania man died in an apparent drowning at a New Jersey beach late Sunday afternoon, despite the efforts of a surfer who pulled him from the water, according to authorities.
James Bishop, 73, Germantown apparently went down to the beach off 100th Avenue, arouond 4:30 p.m. An unidentified surfer called 911 after pulling Bishop from the water at 5:39 p.m., said Al Della Fave, spokesman Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

Long Beach Township police, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and the Ocean County Sheriff's Department all responded to Southern Ocean Medical Medical Center in Manahawkin at 7:15 p.m. for a reported drowning, he said.

"His wife was at home at the time of the incident, waiting for him to return for dinner," Della Fave said.
Bishop was pronounced dead at the hospital at 6:35 p.m. Police are waiting for autopsy results while the investigation continues, he said.
