Philadelphia's Leaf Collection Program Underway

Some locations throughout the city with high concentrations of leaves will have mechanical leaf collection.

The 2014 Leaf Collection and Recycling Program will begin Monday, November 10, and will end Saturday, December 20.

The Streets Department has made some changes to increase the tonnage of leaves collected, reduce the vehicle miles that trucks travel for collections and reuse collected materials for fertilizer. Some locations throughout the city with high concentrations of leaves will have mechanical leaf collection.

Through December 20, residents in these neighborhoods should put their leaves out un-bagged on their regular collection day.

“Residents outside of these collection areas who would like to participate in the leaf recycling program can bag their leaves and drop them at one of 22 neighborhood locations from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the following Saturdays: November 22, December 6, December 13, December 20. Although bagged leaves collected curbside will be processed with residential trash, the leaves will be processed at a facility that creates an organic fertilizer byproduct from the leaves,” the city Streets Department announced.
