"The Phillies support Major League Baseball's Joint Prevention and Treatment Program and are disappointed to hear today's news of Daniel's violation," the Phillies said in a statement.

The Phillies acquired the rookie Stumpf in the Rule 5 draft, along with outfielder Tyler Goeddel, over the winter.

Stumpf tested positive for an anabolic steroid, dehydrochlormethyltestosterone, according to the MLB.

Stumpf will miss about three months of action and his salary will take a hit, MLB rules state. He will be eligible to return to play on July 10.

Cody Stanley of the St. Louis Cardinals tested positive for the same drug in 2015, and received a similar suspension.
