Ridge Avenue United Methodist Church Kicks-off its 170th Anniversary Celebration!

On Sunday, December 18, 2016 the community is invited to join the members of Ridge Avenue United Methodist Church [7811 Ridge Avenue at Shawmont Avenue, Roxborough] to celebrate the kick-off of the church’s 170th Anniversary. At 10:15 am sharp, the internationally renowned Honor Choir of Kermit Texas Independent School District (KISD) will offer a special prelude as well as Christmas tidings in song during the worship service.

Forty-two singers of the KISD Honor Choir are touring through venues in and around Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia via Music Contact International (MCI) and are performing holiday concerts and Christmas cheer.

Ridge Avenue United Methodist Church, founded in 1847, has a strong music ministry itself. Ridge Avenue United Methodist’s own Mission Choir worked with MCI on its domestic and international choir tours (Vienna, Prague, Tuscany, Rome, Berlin, Salzburg, and Stowe, VT) and has participated in many of the same choral festivals over its history and is excited to “return a favor” extended to them during those mission trips.

For years the Kermit High School choir has enjoyed a history rich in awards and fulfillment. Over the past thirty years the choir has been an outstanding and productive part of the Kermit school systems. In December of 2006, members of the Kermit High School and Junior High choirs were organized into the KISD Honor Choir and performed in the 2006 Advent Sing in Vienna, Austria. In 2008 twenty-four members performed in Berlin and Prague. In 2010, the Honor Choir traveled to Ireland and performed at prestigious venues including St. Patrick’s Cathedral (Dublin). Singers traveled through the northeastern part of America in December 2012 to perform at the Basilique Notre-Dame de Montréal, the Mozart Room of the Trapp Family Lodge (Stowe, VT), and St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church (Manhattan, NY). In December 2014, the Honor Choir traveled and performed at notable venues, including the Trapp Family Lodge (Stowe, VT), and the Holiday Market (Boston, MA).
