Roxborough School Wins Whole Food Grant For Memorial Garden Upgrades

Shawmont Elementary School in Roxborough recently announced it has been awarded a grant from Whole Foods market that will help keep its community garden in great shape.

According to the school, it was awarded a $2,000 grant from Whole Foods, Whole Kids Foundation to support the Krista Harron Spera Memorial Community Garden.

The grant money will be used to upgrade the fencing and beds in the garden, as well as purchase necessary tools, equipment, and supplies including plants and soil, the school said.

Krista Harron Spera was a beloved kindergarten teacher at the school. Spera fought and lost her battled with cancer in August 2015, the school said.

The garden was founded through the donations given to a GoFundMe campaign created by the Shawmont Home and School Association.
