That question blew up the internet Thursday and it seems everyone has something to say about it —even the local police department.

“WANTED: This dress to stop appearing in our feed (Even though we’d look simply ravishing in it) #BlueAndBlack,” the Philadelphia Police Department Tweeted.

#TheDress, as it trended on Twitter, is an optical conundrum of epic proportions. All over the world, people became divided about the color of a mere dress, shared by Tumblr user Swiked.

“Guys please help me - is this dress white and gold, or blue and black? Me and my friends can’t agree and we are freaking the f*** out,” she wrote.

The image was quickly shared by BuzzFeed, and has since gotten more than 28 million views.

Pictures of dress, which you can buy on Amazon, spread like wildfire across Facebook and Twitter. It seemed every media outlet picked up on the story. Even the New York Times weighed in.

Wired.com even attempted to provide a scientific explanation of the predicament.

In Wired’s exploration of the subject, they talk to University of Washington Neuroscientist Jay Neitz, who admits that after studying differences in color vision for 30 years, “This is one of the biggest individual differences I’ve ever seen.”
