Two Dead In Separate Roxborough Crashes This Weekend

A utility pole split a vehicle in half after the vehicle struck a deer, then the pole, resulting in a young woman's death, police said.

Two people are dead after two separate crashes that happened over the weekend in Roxborough, with one incident leading to the vehicle being cut in half by a utility pole, according to Philadelphia police.

On Friday March 31 at about 3:24 p.m. a fatal crash occurred on 5400 block of Henry Avenue, according to police.

The crash happened as a 2003 Chevy driven by a 63-year-old male lost control while negotiating a curve, crossing over into the southbound lane of traffic, police said.

The Chevy struck a 2004 Mazda driven by a 28-year-old female, police said.

The male was extricated from the vehicle and taken to Einstein Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 4:35 p.m., police said.

The female was taken to Temple Hospital and listed in stable condition, according to police.

Then on Sunday, April 2 at about 12:30 a.m. another fatal crash occurred on Hagy's Mill Road, police said.

A 2005 Dodge was heading south on the road when it struck a deer then veered into a PECO utility pole, police said.

The pole then fell on the vehicle, splitting it in half, police said.

The passenger, a 22-year-old female was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at 1:14 a.m. after being taken to Einstein Medical Center.

The driver, a 27-year-old male, was also taken to Einstein for non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
