It's not the first incident of crime on the trail in recent months, and residents are growing increasingly concerned about the security of the trail.

A newly formed Schuylkill River Trail Watch has been formed by a coalition of advocacy and recreation organizations to help fight crime on the trail.

"The coalition’s goal is to create a safer, cleaner environment for everyone through positive community engagement and outreach," they state on their website. "This group of advocates and enthusiasts will be the helping hand for our trail’s runners, walkers, cyclists, skateboarders, and commuters. The idea for a Schuylkill River Trail Watch came from Councilman Johnson’s Task Force examining the public safety issues on the Schuylkill River Trail, and discussing solutions to mitigate many of the incidents that were happening on the trail."

Some partners in the Task Force include RUN215, the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, Town Watch Integrated Services, Philadelphia Police Department, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, Philadelphia Streets Department, Schuylkill River Development Corporation, Students Run Philly Style, Black Men Run, Inc., Center City Residents Association, Logan Square Neighborhood Association, Black Girls Run!, and West Philly Runners.

The suspect is still being sought by police. He is described as a black male, 20 to 25 years old, 6'0 tall, with an athletic build and a goatee.
