There's a Lot Happening at Sewickley's White House

Floyd Faulkner gives at-risk youngsters a warm, guiding example to look up to.

Just when most workers' days are starting to wind down,  picks up steam. He's a counselor and mentor at the Sewickley 's after-school program at the White House, the building that Presbyterian Church, Sewickley, owns and is on its grounds.

Faulkner and the program's director, Hank Ford, play host to as many as 35 students from 3 to 5 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday at the house. While there, the students play sports and games, do homework, have a healthy snack and, most importantly, interact with the adults.

Faulkner says the Sewickley area has a significant population of struggling and at-risk families whose children need the structure of the after-school program and the guidance its leaders bring. The White House is a place for students to unwind and recharge.
