Girls Softball Team To Open Season with New Coach

John Tortorea has a background in coaching softball and has conducted clinics for players.

When the girls softball team hosts its first home game on March 29, it will have practiced and prepared under the direction of a new coach.

 is known to high school students and staff as the head football coach and as a paraprofessional, but they might not be familiar with his background in coaching and leadership in softball.

He served as assistant softball coach at Thiel College in 1997 and has coached several softball players who earned most valuable player recognition and conference recognition.

Tortorea has earned a reputation for increasing student participation and retaining players from season to season. 

He has conducted clinics for softball players who ranged in age from 10 to 18.

“We are pleased to have Coach Tortorea take over this role,” said Athletic Director Mike Mastroianni. “John has been an asset to our athletic program and we have every confidence he will be successful with this new coaching responsibility.”
