Today's list is in honor of National Read Across America Week. Patch spoke to local librarians in and Moon to find the best reads available for our readers.
Best books for children at the , according to Children's Librarian Danni Danylo, who enjoys these books as an adult even if they are written for children.
- "The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Prisoner Dilemma," by Trenton Lee Stewart. Released in 2009, this is the third book in an adventurous series that includes unraveling clues. Recommended for fourth grade and up.
- "A Single Shard," by Linda Sue Park. Winner of the Newbery Award, this historical fiction tale is based in 12th-century Korea and centers around the work of potters in a village.
- "The Magician's Elephant," by Kate DiCamillo. Copyrighted in 2009, this touching story is about a magician and a magical appearing elephant. Recommended for fifth to seventh grades. DiCamillo is winner of the Newbery for "The Tale of Despereaux."
- "Crispin: The End of Time," by Avi. The final installment inthe trilogy, this this historical fiction takes place in the French countryside, taking readers on a fun, adventurous ride. The first book in this series, "Crispin: The Cross of Lead," won the 2003 Newbery Award.

- "The Help," by Kathryn Stockett. This New York Times bestseller, set during civil-rights era Mississippi, follows African-American maids working in white households.
- "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest," by Stieg Larsson. This is the third and final book in Larsson's trilogy that also includes his bestsellers "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and "The Girl Who Played with Fire."
- "The Confessions," by John Grisham. An attorney tries to persuade a multiple sex offender to come forward and admit guilt as a murderer to save his client, a former college football star, who is on death row.
- "The Inner Circle," by Brad Meltzer. This 2004 release chronicles the rise of noted sexologist Alfred Kinsey through the eyes of one of his closest assistants.
- "Tick Tock," by James Patterson. If you're in the mood for a thriller, Patterson's latest release tells the story of a man who finds a strange doll on his doorstep. He later discovers it is possessed with an evil spirit.
