Sewickley Hills Revisits 'No Hunting' Signs

The signs would be posted in the borough's park.

Sewickley Hills Council is reconsidering the posting of “no hunting” signs in the park as part of a request from a local recreation organization that uses the park.

Council Vice President Cindy Phillips asked council in March to consider , but the measure failed to gain the approval of council members.

Phillips said Monday that the Quaker Valley Recreation Association would be “very unhappy” if the borough allows hunting on the fields, where kids ofter are running around.

The borough has a contract with the recreation association, which spends a large amount of time maintaining and improving the fields. The community-based nonprofit supports youth athletic programs for upward of 1,000 children from 750 families in the , and runs soccer camps and games at the field.

All expenses related to watering, grass cutting and overall upkeep at the fields in Sewickley Hills is covered by the group.

Solicitor Art Leonard and Phillips agreed that the borough park already has regulations in place that prohibit hunting.

Councilwoman Kim Holzer said she would prefer that QVRA purchase the signs.

Phillips was unsure how much the signs would cost.

Leonard said the borough should first review the contract to see if the organization has an obligation to buy signs.
