Sewickley Library to Screen Film that Highlights Student Stress

The two showings of "Race to Nowhere" on Thursday are free and open to the public.

This week the will feature two showings of Race to Nowhere, an award-winning documentary that addresses the realities of today’s obsession with achievement, and how that obsession is directly affecting children.

The library will show the documentary at 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 22. The film is approximately one hour in length and will be followed by a brief discussion. This event is free and open to the public.

According to documentary director Vicki Abeles, the film features the heartbreaking stories of young people across the country who have been pushed to the brink, educators who are burned out and worried that students aren’t developing the skills they need, and parents who are trying to do what’s best for their kids. Race to Nowhere points to the silent epidemic in our schools: cheating has become commonplace, students have become disengaged, stress-related illness, depression and burnout are rampant, and young people arrive at college and the workplace unprepared and uninspired.
