Viewfinder: Earth Day in Sewickley

A behind-the-lens look at events around the Sewickley Valley. Earth Day is April 22.

Earth Day is April 22 and began more than 40 years ago as a way to inspire awareness and appreciation of the environment.

Preschool students in Susan Wright and Kelly Walker's morning class at the Laughlin Center assembled an art project Tuesday that involved creating a picture using nothing but used bottle caps, recycled ceiling tile and Elmer's Glue-All. Each student worked on a part of the art piece. Preschool teacher Susan Wright came up with the idea.

Also to mark Earth Day, approximately 60 Sewickley Academy sixth-graders spent the morning planting, pulling mulching and gardening at Mary Roberts Reinhart Park in Glen Osborne, Fern Hollow Nature Center in Sewickley Heights and Sewickley Heights Park.
