4 Businesses Burglarized In 3 Days: Springfield Police Blotter

SPRINGFIELD, PA – Springfield Police issued their weekly crime blotter on Monday, highlighting police activity in the township between Aug. 6 and Aug. 11.
Notable, police handled four commercial burglary cases in three days. In each case, glass windows or doors were smashed to get into the businesses.
Police also handled thefts, DUI, warrant arrests, and more.

Aug. 6 at 5:40 p.m.
Officers located a silver colored Pacific Aries mountain bike under trees at Church Road Park. The bike was reportedly abandoned by two juveniles who ran from the park.

Aug. 6 at 10:58 p.m.
Ofc. Kingsbury while on patrol observed a subject known to have an arrest warrant from Delaware County walking on the 300 block Baltimore Pike. The subject was stopped, and the warrant was confirmed. Andrew Porter 45, of Springfield, was taken into custody and taken to Delaware County Prison.
Aug. 7 at 11:02 a.m.
Ofc. Christy received a license plate reader hit for a missing person on a Honda vehicle traveling along the 800 block Baltimore Pike. The vehicle pulled into the Days Inn parking lot and was stopped. As officers made contact with two occupants inside the vehicle, they found marijuana, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. The driver, Samantha Norley, 33, of Chester Springs, was found to have been reported missing in Chester County. During contact, the passenger, Edward Barba, 27, of Drexel Hill, exited the vehicle and ran from the stop. He was later found in the lot in the rear of Best Buy and taken into custody. Both subjects were charged with drug violations and held for arraignment at Springfield Court.
Aug. 7 at 3:52 p.m.
Target at the mall security reported observing a female make selections of clothing and place the clothing in a shopping cart. The female went to the self- checkout area and only scanned two items but placed all the items in bags. She then tried to leave the store before being stopped by security. Target recovered over $160 worth of merchandise. Brendetta Brown 44, of Collingdale, was taken into custody, charged with retail theft and held for arraignment at Springfield Court.
Aug. 7 at 6:33 p.m.
A resident of the 700 block Bradford Terrace reported a weed whacker was removed from his shed in the rear sometime overnight.
Aug. 8 at 1:23 a.m.
Ofc. Kingsbury observed a vehicle on the 200 block Baltimore Pike back into a parked vehicle. The driver did not stop and drove on Baltimore Pike then Leamy Avenue driving in the wrong lane of travel and failing to stop for stop signs on Leamy Avenue. The vehicle was stopped and the driver found to be intoxicated. He was taken into custody, submitted to a blood test and held until released to a friend the next morning. The 41-year-old Drexel Hill resident will be charged with DUI.
Aug. 8 at 3:22 a.m.
Three businesses were broken into using similar methods. Jems on the unit block East Woodland Avenue, Firepit on the 1000 block East Woodland Avenue, and Capriottis on the 100 block South State Road all had their front doors smashed for entry, and exit appeared to be using a rear door. A quantity of cash was stolen from inside. Det. Nutley is investigating.
Aug. 10 at 12:57 p.m.
Howard Grant, 50, of Upper Darby was taken into custody and charged with retail theft after Target at the mall security reported observing him steal $150 worth of clothing.
Aug. 10 at 1:23 p.m.
Target at the mall security reported they observed a female select numerous item of clothing and enter a dressing room. She exited the dressing room wearing the clothing and tried to leave without paying before being stopped. Alicia Dunbar, 25, of Springfield, was taken into custody and charged with retail theft. She was taken for arraignment to Springfield Court. While assisting with this theft case, Ofc. Bierling came upon an occupied vehicle in the lot which may have been waiting to pick up Dunbar. Contact was made with the driver, Christine Myers, 39, of Philadelphia, and she was found to have an active arrest warrant out of Philadelphia. Myers was taken into custody and held for the Philadelphia Sheriff Department.
Aug. 11 at 4:15 p.m.
Officers responded to a glass break alarm at Jos. A. Banks on the 900 block Baltimore Pike and found the front doors shattered by an axe. Numerous items of clothing had been stolen from inside.
Aug. 11 at 7:52 p.m.
Officers responded to a disturbance on the unit block Locust Avenue and located an intoxicated female staggering along the sidewalk. It was learned that she had created the disturbance inside a house and was attempting to leave the area. Sharon Connolly, 34, of Aston was taken into custody and charged with public drunkenness. She was later released to her mother.
