Ax-Wielding Man Arrested, Counterfeit Money, And More: Springfield Police Blotter

In once incident, a man was arrested after breaking down a door and chasing a man with an ax, police said.

SPRINGFIELD, PA – Springfield Township Police issued a press release Monday listing the incident officers handled from May 9 to May 13.

May 9, 10:38 p.m.
A male subject made a purchase of $400 worth of merchandise using counterfeit $100 bills on May 7 at the Babies "R" Us on Baltimore Pike. Det. McNeely is investigating this incident.

May 9, 11:55 p.m.
Springfield Mall Security stopped and detained two subjects who were engaged in a fight in the parking lot outside the mall entrance. Both were cited for Disorderly Conduct.

May 9, 6:45 p.m.
Springfield School District reported that a female ETR student while standing at the bus stop Old Schoolhouse Lane /Minshall Road earlier in the day was approached by a male in a silver sedan who engaged her in conversation about school. The male was described as being in his 50s with a distinctive hair spike.

May 9, 7 p.m.
A resident of the 100 block of Broadview Road reported a laptop computer was taken from front seat of his unlocked vehicle sometime between 5-5 and 5-7.

May 11, 4:23 p.m.
Police were notified by two residents of the 400 block Kerr Lane that a male subject was walking around the area carrying an ax and claiming to be hearing gunshots. A third house on Kerr Lane was found to have damage on the rear door caused by an ax. A short time later, a male subject showed up at the FBI Office in Newtown Square and told agents there that he had broken down a door in Springfield and chased a man with an ax. Michael Zupanick, of Springfield, was taken into custody. He was transported to a hospital for medical treatment and was charged by Det. McCarthy with Aggravated Assault and property crimes.

May 13, 12:05 a.m.
Tyler McLaughlin, 22, of Springfield, was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle after Sgt. McKinney found him operating a vehicle without the owner’s permission in the area of Norwinden Drive and Cambridge Road. He was arraigned at Springfield District Court.

May 13, 1:18 p.m.
Karen Coleman, 48, of Wilmington, Delaware, was charged with Retail Theft after being observed stealing over $150 worth of clothing from the Gap Store in the mall. She was held and arraigned at Springfield District Court.

May 13, 8:05 p.m.
Hasaan McNish 21, of Folcroft, was cited for Retail Theft after he was observed stealing $22 worth of clothing from the Macy’s Store in the mall.

May 13, 8:51 p.m.
Two juveniles from Folsom were stopped by Officers Dunkle and Oswald for being in Church Road Park after dark. They were cited for park violations and released.

May 13, 9:26 p.m.
Three adult males were stopped on Kelli Lane and taken into custody after being found inside a vehicle and in possession of a quantity of marijuana. Charges are pending.
