Update from DelCo Based Documentary
Temple film graduate prepares for documentary about DelCo child abuse case as preproduction nears an end.
On March 19th Bob Bryne wrote an article announcing that preproduction had started for DelCo based documentary A Bird Without Wings. As the director, I am personally involved in each aspect of the film. With only 10 days left of our fundraising campaign, there is much to do before filming starts!
The documentary focuses on a child from Delaware County who was abused by his parents. Although he reached out to social services and the police, no one was able to help him. The film is not centered on attacking any one person, but rather to examine the legal system that is put into place to "protect" our citizens. Child abuse (defined by law as "Any recent act or failure to act by a perpetrator that causes non accidental serious physical injury to a child under age 18") is considered a class one misdemeanor in Pennsylvania. This is punishable by two and half years in prison or a $10,000 fine. To those involved in this film, this doesn't seem to be in the best interest of the child. We want to explore the flaws in the system that let children slip through the cracks. Because this is a delicate subject, we are searching to expose nothing more than the truth of what really goes on.
Still in preproduction stages, we are running an IndieGoGo Crowd Funding Campaign. Our marking manager and producer are also orchestrating a possible Ice Cream fundraiser to be held in Springfield in May. As the director, I've been organizing crew and preparing for filming. We are planning to film in both DelCo and in New York (where our subject currently goes to school). We are also preparing for some fun giveaways on our Facebook page! Because this is a community issue, we are hoping for community involvement. We always welcome suggestions and comments in our Facebook Inbox.

For now we have our crew busy with preparation and planning. Hopefully soon we plan to have a photo shoot of "behind the scenes" to show everyone.
