Burglary, Assault, Thefts, And More Highlight Springfield Police Blotter

Police in the township were busy last week, responding to various incidents including a family who came home to a stranger in their house.

SPRINGFIELD, PA – The Springfield Township Police Department had a busy week between Sept. 25 and Sept. 30, as the department's latest crime report highlights 11 incidents that police responded to between those dates.

Incidents include an alleged assault at a high school football game, a family coming home to a burglar from Maryland, retail thefts and thefts from vehicles, and more.

Sept. 25, 7:14 a.m.
Several unlocked vehicles were entered overnight in the area of Lewis Road, Old Schoolhouse Drive, and
Broadview Road. Small amounts of coins were taken.

Sept. 27, 12:03 p.m.
Loss prevention at Giant on the 700 block West Sproul Road reported finding numerous amounts of allergy medication missing from display. Investigation revealed two adult females along with a juvenile female
entered the store on Sept. 21 and removed the medication concealing it in their pants. They left in a vehicle.
Det. McNeely is investigating.

Sept. 27, 7:06 p.m.

Residents of a house on the 200 block South Swarthmore Avenue found a male on the second floor of the house while they were inside. When confronted the male fled the house and rode away on a bicycle. Responding officers located the male in the area of Yale Avenue and stopped him. He was identified as Michael Christian, 32, of Baltimore. Christian was taken into custody and charged with burglary and other offenses. He was held for arraignment at Springfield Court.

Sept. 28, 11:18 a.m.
Two pieces of construction equipment stored at the Springfield Swim Club on the 300 block North Rolling Road were reported to have been damaged sometime during the weekend Sept. 16 and Sept 17. Det. Nutley is investigating the incident.

Sept. 28, 8:45 p.m.
A male juvenile from Springfield reported that sometime during the football game at the high school he was punched in the face by two male juveniles who are believed to be from out of town. Det. Devaney is investigating.

Sept. 29, 10:25 a.m.
A resident of Broadview Road reported finding a box of baseball cards in the rear of his property. Contact Sgt. J. DiTrolio or Det. Devaney.

Sept. 29, 5:50 p.m.
Employees at the Wine and Spirit Shop on the 100 block Baltimore Pike reported two females attempted to steal bottles of liquor from a display shelf. When confronted the females got into a struggle with employees
and knocked over a display rack before fleeing on Baltimore Pike. Det. McCarthy is investigating.

Sept. 29, 8 p.m.
Target at the mall security observed a juvenile male steal over $95 worth of merchandise and attempt
to leave the store. The male, 14, of Lansdowne, was cited for retail theft and turned over to his mother.

Sept. 29, 10:48 p.m.
Several juveniles were found inside Memorial Park during prohibited hours. Charges for violating the
Township Parks Ordinance will be filed.

Sept. 30, 5:27 p.m.
A juvenile female from Clifton Heights was stopped by Target security at the mall after being observed
concealing an amount of underwear and shoes inside a bag. She was taken into custody by police and
released to family. Charges for retail theft will be filed.

Sept. 30, 7:40 p.m.
Ofc. Graff observed a juvenile male acting disorderly at the Old Central School during which time the
juvenile broke a spindle on the porch railing. Charges are pending against the male.
