Charity Provides Evening of Fun to Delaware County Child Battling Cystic Fibrosis

Casey Cares Foundation provided a special evening of fun to a Delaware County girl battling cystic fibrosis.

Describing Sierra M. as a fighter is an understatement. The 11 year-old girl from Clifton Heights suffers from cystic fibrosis, which forces her to face many medical obstacles that most kids her age never have to endure.

“Sierra’s medical treatments are very tiring and time consuming—she has to wear an 18 pound vest every day as part of her chest physical therapy,” said Andrea, Sierra’s mother.

For Sierra, yesterday evening gave her a chance to forget about all the rigorous medical treatments for a few hours. Thanks to the efforts of Casey Cares Foundation, a non-profit charity that provides uplifting and ongoing programs with a special touch to critically ill children and their families throughout the Mid-Atlantic area, Sierra received a special evening of fun at Putt Putt Golf and Games in Clifton Heights.

Sierra, her family and a few close friends met at 6 p.m. to play miniature golf together. “Battling Sierra’s illness is a slow marathon and you have to stay steady and consistent, but her illness doesn’t stop her from doing everything she wants to do,” said Sierra’s mom. “Something little like this evening out miniature golfing with her friends means the world to Sierra because she gets to be just like every other 11 year old. We never let her illness define her.”

Sierra said going to Putt Putt Golf and Games was very special because she only gets to do activities like miniature golf about once a year. Down the line, Casey Cares Foundation will no doubt provide more opportunities for Sierra to have fun, as the charity focuses on providing multiple events for families throughout the entire year.
