​A 5-year-old Delaware County boy has been identified as the victim of a fatal lightning strike Sunday at North Carolina's Outer Banks.

A 5-year-old Delaware County boy has been identified as the victim of a fatal lightning strike Sunday at North Carolina's Outer Banks.

The boy, identified as Stephen Little of Lansdowne, was killed Sunday after the lightning strike on Carova Beach, where he was vacationing with his family.

Stephen and his family were trying to get out of the storm around 4:10 p.m. when the young boy was struck by a lightning bolt just outside the family's SUV, according to The Outer Banks Voice.

The boy began to go into cardiac arrest, and his family began driving him to meet emergency responders near the village of Corolla, the Outer Banks Voice report said, noting air ambulance services were disabled due to the storms.

The boy was pronounced dead around 6 p.m. at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital.
