Delco Hazardous Household Waste Collection Event Set For April 1

See what items are and aren't accepted at the waste disposal event.

Delaware County residents can get rid of hazardous household waste safely on April 1 at the county's hazardous household waste collection event.

The events begin at 9 a.m. and end at 3 p.m. at the Emergency Services Training Center, 1700 Calcon Hook Road, Sharon Hill.

The disposal event is open to Delaware County residents only. Businesses, industry, or institutions are not permitted to use the services.

Items/materials accepted are:

  • oil-based paint
  • oil-based sealants
  • paint thinner
  • gasoline
  • kerosine
  • gas/oil mixtures
  • heating/motor oil
  • lead acid batteries
  • rechargeable batteries
  • lithium batteries
  • button batteries
  • nickle-cadmium batteries
  • pool cleaners
  • rust/paint remover
  • antifreeze
  • lawn chemicals
  • cleaners/solvents
  • mercury thermostats and thermometers
  • fluorescent tubes

Items/materials not accepted are:

  • electronics
  • smoke detectors
  • latex paint
  • asbestos
  • explosives
  • gas or propane cylinders
  • PCBs
  • pressurized CFCs
  • tires
  • medical waste
  • alkaline batteries

Throughout 2017, residents will be able to dispose of harsh materials on several dates and locations:

  • Saturday, May 6 – Marple Transfer Station, 895 Sussex Boulevard, Broomall 19008
  • Sunday, Sept. 17 – Penn State University Brandywine Campus, 25 Yearsley Mill Road, Media 19063 (use the main entrance at the traffic light on Route 352)
  • Saturday, Oct. 7 – Emergency Services Training Center, 1700 Calcon Hook Road, Sharon Hill 19079
