Delco Teacher Headed To Trial On Sexual Assault Charges

A Ridley High School teacher charged with sexual assault waived a preliminary hearing Monday on sexual assault charges, court records show.

Gregory Stanczuk, 52, of West Chester is headed to trial on charges of institutional sexual assault, among others.

The charges are related to the alleged sexual assault of an 18-year-old female student, according to the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office. Stanczuk was a physics teacher and track coach at the school.

“As a teacher and coach, Gregory Stanczuk flagrantly used his position of trust and authority to exploit the victim, manipulating her emotionally for his own sexual gratification,” District Attorney Jack Whelan said in a statement when the charges were announced in February.

According to a report by the Delaware County Times, Stanczuk and the girl, a senior, would go on long drives together after practice and sometimes hold hands. The casual encounters escalated to kissing and later, oral sex at a hotel room, according to the report.

Authorities said Stanczuk was arrested at the conclusion of an lengthy investigation conducted by Sgt. Robin F. Clark of the Delaware County District Attorney’s Criminal Investigation Division Child Abuse Unit.

His formal arraignment is scheduled for April 27.
