Drug Possession, Thefts, Fraud Mark Springfield Police Blotter
A Springfield man was hit with drug crimes after he was found passed out in a cab and had eight baggies of heroin on him, police said.

SPRINGFIELD, PA – Springfield Township Police released their latest crime report highlighting recent activity in the township. The report covers notable incidents reported between Oct. 2 and Oct. 8.
Crimes included in this report are heroin possession, DUI, fraud, thefts, and more.

Oct. 2, 7:37 p.m.
Macy's, 1250 Baltimore Pike, reported a retail theft. Officer Brian Dunkle responded to the store and learned that three men had concealed clothing and fled the store. The men entered a vehicle and drove from the scene. The total amount of the theft was $256. Suspect and vehicle descriptions were provided by store security. Det. Robert Nutley is handling the investigation.
Oct. 3, 7:02 p.m.
Kay Jewelers, 1250 Baltimore Pike, reported a fraud. Two women entered the store and completed credit applications which were approved. One of the women purchased $10,970 worth of merchandise and the other purchased $3,082 worth of merchandise. All sales were made on credit. The store later discovered that both women used fraudulent identification to open the store credit. Suspect and vehicle descriptions were provided by store employees. Det. Robert Nutley is handling the investigation.

Oct. 3, 8:18 p.m.
Officer Stephen Hurwitz responded to a motor vehicle accident at Saxer Avenue and Johnston Road. While conducting the investigation, it was determined that one of the drivers showed signs of intoxication. A 26-year-old woman from Springfield was taken into custody and charged with DUI. Det. Robert Nutley is handling the investigation.
Oct. 4, 2:39 a.m.
A resident reported a suspicious man in the 200 block of Ballymore Road attempting to enter parked vehicles. Officers responded and located Daniel Carbonetti, 29, of Yeadon, in the area. He was found to be highly intoxicated and was taken into custody. He was positively identified as the subject entering vehicles. A search of his person revealed a large amount of loose change and eight loose pills in a cigarette pack. Carbonetti was charged with theft and related offenses. Det. James Devaney is handling the investigation.
Oct. 4, 10:14 a.m.
Officer Joseph Prendergast responded to the 200 block of Foulke Lane for an unconscious person in a cab. A 56-year-old man from Springfield was believed to be under the influence of a controlled substance. Medical attention was refused. A search of the subject produced eight small wax baggies of suspected heroin. He was taken into custody and charged with drug possession and related offenses. Det. James Devaney is handling the investigation.
Oct. 5, 10:37 a.m.
Kay Jewelers, 1250 Baltimore Pike, reported a fraud in progress. Employees advised that a woman was in the store attempting to make a purchase with fraudulent credit. Donna Stallworth, 42, of Pennsauken, New Jersey, presented herself to employees under a different name and was attempting to make a purchase using a fraudulent credit account. Officer Joseph Prendergast confirmed her actual identity and she admitted to the fraud. Stallworth was taken into custody and charged with theft, forgery and related offenses. Det. Bridget McCarthy is handling the investigation.
Oct. 6, 9:30 p.m.
While monitoring juvenile activity in the 100 block of Saxer Avenue, Sgt Patrick McKenna contacted three Springfield juveniles using loud, obscene language. This activity was heard by other pedestrians in the area. The juveniles will be cited for Disorderly Conduct.
Oct. 7, 2:45 p.m.
Officer Kyle Cutcliff conducted a traffic stop at W Rolling Rd and Hemlock Lane. During his stop, he detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The driver, David Helms, 31, of Norwood, turned over a container of suspected marijuana. Helms will be charged for the drug possession. Det. Robert Nutley is handling the investigation.
Oct. 7, 9:12 p.m.
Macy's, 1250 Baltimore Pike, reported a retail theft. Store security had a male juvenile from Chester in custody. The juvenile concealed $108 in merchandise and attempted to leave the store. Officer Brian Dunkle transported the juvenile to the police station and confirmed his identity. He was cited for retail theft and turned over to his mother.
Oct. 8, 2:45 a.m.
While on patrol, Officer Brian Dunkle observed a vehicle blocking the exit of the Olde Sproul Shopping Village, 1100 block of Baltimore Pike. He contacted the driver, Ronald Killen, 26, Bear, Delaware. Killen was found to be intoxicated and was placed under arrest for DUI. Det. Robert Nutley is handling the investigation.
