Mazurek Is School District Employee of the Month

The June Employee of the Month is Steve Mazurek, a math teacher at Springfield High School.

Steve earned his Bachelor’s degree from Temple University and has taken graduate courses at both Temple and St. Joe’s Universities. He started teaching at (SHS) in 1985. He has taught nearly every math course offered at SHS in his 26 years there. Steve and his family were Springfield residents for seven years before moving to Chester County.

Steve is well known not only as a great math instructor, but as a caring individual who reaches out to students, building relationships as a teacher and coach.

“I look forward to each new September, new students, fresh faces – an exciting new school year working with the whole child to make students successful both in and out of class,” he siad.

Steve has coached many athletic teams while at SHS, with wrestling as his passion.

He also is a fixture at SHS over the summer as the math teacher for the summer school program. When not working with students from Springfield, Steve spends time with his wife and three children. An avid runner and cyclist, Steve is known to peddle his way to summer school from the West Chester area several times a week. He commented on this practice, “Gas is so expensive these days.”

His colleagues at SHS were very quick to share their praise for Steve.

“Steve is one of those people for whom you would be hard-pressed to find an enemy. He is one of the first teachers in the building every morning and always wears a smile – This is because he genuinely likes his role of teaching and enjoys working with young people,” George Trout said.

“Steve is one of the most dedicated teachers I know who is genuinely interested in helping all his students achieve and do well. His patience, willingness to meet students before and after school and his sense of humor makes him one of our most liked teachers,” Dave Ash said.

Bill Harley from the math department said it this way, “Steve is the all-star major leaguer at SHS whose name is in the lineup everyday.”

Principal Frank McKnight summed him up by saying, “Steve’s character is beyond reproach. He is student-centered, coming to work everyday well-prepared and with a great attitude. His approach to education does not go unnoticed by his colleagues, students and their parents.”

For these reasons and many more, Steve Mazurek is celebrated as the Springfield School District June Employee of the Month.
