Nothing Funny About Springfield Tailback’s Numbers

Rob Murphy was tough to stop last Friday night, rushing for a career-best 206 yards on 18 carries and three touchdowns in Springfield's 35-19 victory over Harriton.

Rob Murphy sometimes laughs at himself when he views film of him running. The diminutive Springfield junior tailback is explosive and dangerous. He’s certainly entertaining each time he touches the ball. He churns his arms rapidly, as he darts through the line.

Murphy was tough to stop last Friday night, rushing for a career-best 206 yards on 18 carries and three touchdowns in Springfield’s 35-19 victory over Harriton.

“When I see myself running on film, sometimes I wonder myself what I’m doing,” said Murphy, laughing. “I don’t really know how to describe my running style. I’m kind of all over the place. I run track and pump my arms the same way. When I see myself on film, sometimes I even laugh at myself.”

Murphy is going to be hard to stop. He’s generously listed at 5-foot-9, 165 pounds, which may be more accurate. But his low build and great balance works well with his booming speed.

“Our offensive line has done a great job, and I’ve been running through the holes,” Murphy said. “I’m looking for us to keep it up.”
