Police In Delco Investigating Driveway Paving Scam

According to police, a paving crew approached an elderly victim and said they were in the neighborhood and "had extra black top left over."

Police in Delaware County are investigating what they believe is a deceptive business interaction that occurred Tuesday in the Villanova/St. Davids section of Radnor Township.

According to Radnor police, a paving crew approached an elderly victim and said they were in the neighborhood on another job and "had extra black top left over."

They offered to resurface the elderly person's driveway for $4 a square foot and had the victim sign paperwork quoting that price.

"After starting work they then said that they ran out of materials and that they would return," police said. An inspection of the started work revealed an "inadequate thickness" to the black top, authorities said.

Radnor Township requires all solicitors to posses a township issued Solicitor Permit, which should be visible to the consumer.
