On the morning of Saturday, October 19, 2013, the Springfield Democratic Committee got together for its Bi-Annual Springfield Road Cleanup. Since 2010, in the Spring around Earth Day and in the Fall around Make a Difference Day, members of the Springfield Democratic Committee have given back to the community by performing community service, cleaning up trash and debris along a stretch of Springfield Road running from Bishop Avenue to Route 1.
Springfield Democratic Committee Chairman Raymond Santarelli said, “We have made it a point to promote, organize and conduct these cleanup events since I became Committee Chair. It is rewarding to participate in such events that help the community directly. I must give credit to Rocco Polidoro, who came up with the idea, and allows us to use his business property at Springfield and Brookside Roads as a base of operation.” Polidoro stated, “I always believed that organizations such as ours should have a strong community focus. The community is really supportive of our efforts, usually honking or shouting words of encouragement as they see our members out there doing our work.”
