Springfield Police Blotter: 6 Thefts From Target, DUI, More
Police handled six thefts from the Target store, one involving an employee allegedly stealing $14,000 worth of smartphones. Details here.

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA – The latest Springfield Police blotter is out and police in the township spent a lot of time at Target handling thefts in the last week.
Police reported six thefts from the department sore between Oct. 22 and Oct. 27.
In one case, an employee was accused of stealing $14,000 worth of smartphones.

Oct. 22, 7:11 a.m.
Officers responded to the Best Buy store, 600 block Baltimore Pike, to investigate damage to the glass on an exterior door. They found someone had smashed the glass and entered the vestibule sometime overnight. The person was stymied at the interior doors however and nothing was stolen.

Oct. 22, 2:41 p.m.
Target at the mall security reported having a female in custody for shoplifting. Officers responded and found the female had stolen six cans of baby formula, and on a previous occasion stole 12 cans of baby formula. The total value of both thefts was over $300. Allyson McGinnes, 20, from Brookhaven, was arrested and charged with retail theft. She was held for arraignment at Springfield court.
Oct. 22, 9:02 p.m.
Alisha Thomas, 33, from Drexel Hill, was taken into custody and charged with retail theft after Target at the mall security watched her select 32 items of clothing and attempt to walk out of the store failing to pay for the items. She was held for arraignment at Springfield court.
Oct. 23, 3:06 a.m.
While on patrol, Ofc. Hurwitz found a smashed front door at the Casual Male store, 200 block Baltimore Pike. Further investigation showed that someone had entered the store around 12:45 a.m. and opened two cash registers and stole a quantity of jackets and sweaters. Investigation continuing.
Oct. 23, 7:44 p.m.
Target at the mall security reported observing two females selecting numerous items of merchandise including toys, space heater, curtains, and towels and placing them in a shopping cart. They wheeled the cart to the self-service checkout area and rang up the same towel nine times but forgot the other items. They then left the store with the cart. Masika Bertrand, 32, of Mapleshade, NJ, was taken into custody and charged with retail theft. She was held for arraignment. The other female was not stopped.
Oct. 25, 3:52 p.m.
Officers investigated a theft of clothing from the Target at the mall. Security there reported they
observed a female select over $180 worth of clothing and market items and place them in a cart. She went through the self-checkout aisle and paid for the market items. She then wheeled the cart out of the store not paying for the clothing. Kathryn Schmucker, 36, of Secane was taken into custody and charged with retail theft. She was taken to Springfield court for arraignment.
Oct. 25, 8:29 p.m.
A 19-year-old female from Philadelphia was taken into custody and charged with retail theft after she was observed at Target at the mall stealing over $100 worth of jewelry, cosmetics, and accessories. She was released.
Oct. 27, 9:49 a.m.
Target 800 block Baltimore Pike reported investigating a male employee after observing him on several occasions taking iPhones from an unloading operation and placing them in his vehicle. On Oct. 27 he was observed by security with an iPhone phone in his pants walking to his vehicle after unloading and was stopped. The total amount of theft is about $14,000. Det. Devaney is investigating.
Oct. 27, noon
Several unlocked vehicles were entered overnight and a small amount of coins were taken in the area of Sara Drive and Stoneybrook Drive.
Oct. 28, 2:36 a.m.
Police investigated a crash on Bishop Avenue near Baltimore Pike. The driver of one of the vehicles had been exiting the Wawa lot and failed to yield to traffic. He was found to be intoxicated and was taken into custody. The 65-year-old male from Springfield will be charged with DUI. He was released to family.
