Springfield Police Blotter: Robbery, DUI, Thefts, More

Police said two adults and a juvenile were arrested and charged after a strong-arm robbery at an AT&T wireless store.

The new blotter covers incidents that occurred between Jan. 21 and Jan. 27 in the township.

Police dealt with thefts, a robbery, and DUI.

Jan. 21 at 11 a.m.
Macy’s security, 1250 Baltimore Pike, reported a retail theft. A male was observed concealing Polo tee shirts and attempting to leave the store. When security approached, the subject ran from the store dropping the merchandise and an iPhone. A description was provided and Det. Jim Devaney is investigating.

Jan. 24 at 7:24 p.m.
The Children’s Place, 1250 Baltimore Pike, reported a retail theft. The store manager observed three suspicious females in the store. As one distracted employees, the other two left the store with bags full of merchandise. Descriptions and surveillance video were provided. Det. Robert Nutley is investigating

Jan. 25 at 7:09 p.m.
AT&T Wireless, 1250 Baltimore Pike, reported a strong-arm robbery. Three males entered the store and began looking at phones. One of the males ripped an iPhone XR, valued at $750, from its security device and headed for the exit. An employee confronted the suspect and was pushed aside. All three males fled the store on foot. A description was provided. Three males matching the description were found at a Septa stop on Baltimore Pike and were detained by an assisting Swarthmore officer. They were positively identified by employees and taken into custody. All three, two adults and one juvenile from Philadelphia, were charged in the incident. Det. Robert Nutley is handling the case.

Jan. 26 at 11:57 a.m.
While investigating a single vehicle accident at the Block Jewelers, 149 Baltimore Pike, the operator, 59 years old from Aldan, was found to be driving while intoxicated. The driver was arrested and charged with DUI. Det. Robert Nutley is handling the case.

Jan. 26 at 2:06 p.m.
Target, 1200 Baltimore Pike, reported a retail theft. Rafeeq Jalil Miller, 25 years old from Philadelphia, was observed going through the self-check-out with eleven cans of Similac baby formula and failing to pay. Total value $183. Miller is stopped by security exiting the store. He was turned over to police and charged with retail theft.

Jan. 26 at 7:37 p.m.
Macy’s security, 1250 Baltimore Pike, reported a retail theft. A male was observed leaving the store with two winter jackets and other unpaid merchandise in a backpack. The suspect entered a vehicle, which was seen leaving the lot. A description of the suspect and vehicle was provided. An assisting officer from Swarthmore stopped the vehicle. Nicholas Hoffman-Thornton, 36 years old from Philadelphia, was positively identified and taken into custody. The two jackets were recovered totaling $745. Hoffman-Thornton was charged with retail theft. Det. Robert Nutley is handling the case.

Jan. 27 at 1:02 p.m.
Target, 1200 Baltimore Pike, reported a retail theft. Security observed three juveniles concealing Legos in the toy department. The juveniles left the store and were followed out into the mall where police contacted them. The stolen Legos, totaling $429, were found in several backpacks. The juveniles, one from Darby and two from Upper Darby, were taken into custody. They were charged with retail theft and released to a parent.

Jan. 27 at 4:34 p.m.
AT&T, 1100 Baltimore Pike, reported a retail theft. An employee observed two males enter the store and remove an iPhone XS from the display. The males exited the store and left the area in a vehicle. Descriptions of the suspects and the vehicle were provided. The value of the phone is $1,099. Det. Robert Nutley is investigating.
