Springfield Police Blotter: Stolen Car, Thefts, More

Police said a Netherwood Drive resident left his car running on Jan. 17 after leaving it running to warm it up. See the full blotter here.

SPRINGFIELD, PA — Springfield Township Police released their weekly crime blotter Monday, and we have the details here.

The blotter covers incidents in the township that occurred between Jan. 14 and Jan. 18.

Police dealt with retail thefts, counterfeit money, a stolen vehicle, and more.

Jan. 14 at 7:30 a.m.
Officers were called to the trolley tracks at Springfield Road to investigate a person who was having a difficult time standing up. Officers found a male subject sitting so that his legs were blocking the tracks. The male appeared highly intoxicated and had fallen several times cutting his cheek. The male, 50, of Springfield, was taken into custody and charged with public drunkenness. He was later released to a friend.

Jan. 14 at 1:13 p.m.
Verizon Wireless, 700 block West Sproul Road, reported two male subjects entered the store and cut the security wire on two display cell phones and took the phones without paying. They left the area in a vehicle. Det. Nutley is investigating.

Jan. 15 at 12:49 hrs.
T-Mobile, 800 block Baltimore Pike, reported two male subjects entered the store and cut the security wire on three display cell phones and took the phones without paying. They left the area towards Woodland Avenue. Det. Nutley is investigating.

Jan. 15 at 7:59 p.m.
Target at the mall security reported three females were inside the store concealing clothing and jewelry inside purses they were carrying. The three were stopped by police as they approached the exit doors. One was found to be an adult and two juveniles all from Upper Darby Township. They were taken into custody and will be charged with retail theft. They were released to family.

Jan. 16 at 12:27 p.m.
BJ’s Wholesale, 1200 block East Woodland Avenue, reported someone passed a counterfeit $100 bill. The subject attempted to purchase a $15 item using the $100 bill at the self-service checkout. When the bill was denied, he went to the customer service and received his $85 change. The bill was later found to be counterfeit. Det. McNeely is investigating.

Jan. 16 at 7:41 p.m.
The AT&T store in the mall reported a male entered the store and manipulated a display cell phone which triggered an alarm. When the store employee went to provide assistance the male threatened the employee with a knife. The male then continued to try to steal the phones, but was unsuccessful. He then left the mall. Det. McCarthy is investigating.

Jan. 17 at 6 a.m.
A resident of the 100 block Netherwood Drive reported someone stole his Honda Accord vehicle from the street in front of his house. He said he had started the vehicle to warm up for about five minutes and left it unlocked with the keys in the ignition.

Jan. 17 at 9:18 p.m.
Macy’s at the mall security reported two male subjects selected a large quantity of clothing and left the store without paying. They entered a waiting vehicle and fled on Baltimore Pike. Clifton Heights PD was able to stop the vehicle in Clifton Heights and three subjects inside were identified. Officers recovered over $6,400 worth of Macy’s merchandise from inside the vehicle not all of which was stolen during this episode. Det. McCarthy is continuing the investigation and charges will be filed.

Jan. 18 at 2:37 p.m.
Macy’s at the mall security reported three males selected several packages of Polo tee shirts and ran out of the store. They were not careful and fumbled a few on the way out but were able to leave the mall lot in a vehicle. Det. McNeely will follow-up.
