Springfield Police Blotter: Stolen Car, Trespassing, Robbery

Police charged a teenager from Delaware with trespassing and theft after they allegedly stole from cash at the mall. See details here.

The report covers incidents that occurred between Dec. 31 and Jan. 6 in the township.

Dec. 31 at 10:48 a.m.
Officers responded to the 600 block Baltimore Pike to investigate a male and a female fighting. Officers made contact with both in the parking lot of Michael’s Arts and Crafts. The male provided false information and then ran from the scene. The male ran to the rear of a house on the 700 block Saxer Avenue where he stole a vehicle parked in the driveway. As officers ordered him to stop the vehicle, he continued to drive and fled the area on Baltimore Pike. The vehicle was later recovered unoccupied in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. The male was identified through investigation and charges will be filed.

Jan. 1 at 11:20 a.m.
Springfield Mall security reported three kiosks inside the mall were entered overnight and money was missing from the cash drawers. Detectives were able to get video surveillance of the thefts which occurred at about 9:30 p.m. Dec. 31. On Jan. 5 at about 10 p.m. Officers responded to the mall to investigate a person who fit the description of the subject stealing on Dec. 31. The person was identified as a 14, of Wilmington, Delaware. He was taken into custody and turned over to family. Charges will be filed for trespassing and theft.

Jan. 1 at 3:39 p.m.
Target at the mall security reported observing three males in the store. They stole a pair of scissors and used the scissors to cut open several toys which they then concealed in their backpacks. They fled the store before being stopped. Responding officers located the three on Sproul Road and recovered over $200 worth of merchandise. Two juveniles from Philadelphia and one from Upper Darby were taken into custody and turned over to family. Charges for retail theft will be filed

Jan. 1 at 6:17 p.m.
A female was arrested and charged with retail theft after being observed at Target at the mall stealing over $350 worth of electronics, luggage, and baby clothes. She was accompanied by two children and fraudulently made a return on one of the items she had selected and received a gift card. She then tried to walk out with the remaining unpaid for items. Samantha Day 28, of Downingtown, was taken into custody and held for arraignment. Her children were turned over to their father

Jan. 1 at 9:13 p.m.
Target 800 block Baltimore Pike reported they investigated an employee for stealing over $1,800 worth of Apple electronic products over a one week period. Shannon Hobbs 22, of Philadelphia, was identified and found to have an active arrest warrant against him for a drug offense. He was taken into custody and held for Philadelphia Police. He was be charged with theft.

Jan. 2 at 6:35 p.m.
Several trailers parked on the property of 1260 E. Woodland Ave. had their locks cut sometime during the week. A small amount of tools were taken.

Jan. 6 at 1:40 p.m.
A resident of the 500 block Maplewood Road reported a male subject took his bike from his front lawn. When the resident tried to get the bike back, the subject threatened him with harm. The subject then walked with the stolen bike towards the area of Sabold School. Officers located the subject on the school property and he was identified as the thief. Michael Kacala 18, of Upper Darby, was taken into custody charged with robbery and theft and held for arraignment.
