Springfield Police Blotter: Thefts, DUI, More

Police said a suspect in the shooting at the Springfield Mall turned himself in recently. See more details on that and other incidents here.

SPRINGFIELD, PA – The newest Springfield Police blotter is out, and we've got it here.

Police handled several crimes, mostly thefts and DUI.

However, police said a suspect involved in the Oct. 20 shooting at the Springfield Mall was arrested.

Nov. 8, 1:20 p.m.
Employees at the Wine and Spirits Store on the 100 block Baltimore Pike reported two females selected two bottles from a shelf and concealed the bottles in a handbag. They exited the store and left in a black Chevrolet vehicle. Det. McNeely is investigating.

Nov. 8, 4:03 p.m.
Officers assisted the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office with serving an arrest warrant on the 600 block East Leamy Avenue. Nicholas Menditto, 23, was taken into custody for a probation violation without incident.

Nov. 9, 9:11 p.m.
An employee at the Charlotte Russe store Springfield Mall reported observing a female shopper in an unauthorized room inside the store. The employee later realized her purse had been rummaged and items were missing from her wallet. She then learned unauthorized charges had been placed on one of her credit cards. Det. Devaney is investigating.

Nov. 9, 7:52 p.m.
The Sprint PCS store on the 1100 block Baltimore Pike reported two subjects entered the store and purchased a phone charger. On their way out, they grabbed two iPhones from a display table and ran out of the store.

Nov. 9, 9:10 p.m.
Officers investigated a crash on the 800 block West Springfield Road in which a vehicle made a left turn failing to yield to another vehicle. The driver, a 73-year-old male from Springfield, was found to be intoxicated and taken into custody. He provided a blood test and charges for DUI are pending.

Nov. 11, 11:21 p.m.
Officers investigated a crash of a vehicle into a pole on the 200 block Parham Road. The driver, a 22-year-old male from Springfield, was found to be intoxicated and was taken into custody. He submitted to a blood test and charges for DUI are pending. He was released to family.

Nov. 11, 7:11 p.m.
Officers responded to the Target store at the mall and took a report of a lost wallet. With the help of Target security and mall security it was learned that while the victim was shopping at Target earlier in the day her wallet was in a baby stroller. A male subject followed her around the store and took the wallet as the victim walked away briefly. Det. Devaney is investigating.

Nov. 8, 9 a.m.
A suspect involved in the shooting incident at the Springfield Mall on Oct. 20 turned himself in to police. Waheed Jenkins 31, of Chester, was charged with crimes related to the incident. He was arraigned at Springfield Court and transported to Delaware County Prison by Constables. Springfield Police thank all those agencies who assisted us with the investigation including the Delaware County CID, Septa PD, Chester PD, Folcroft PD K9, Philadelphia PD, the US Customs Office, and all those who helped on the day of the incident. The investigation continues by Detectives McNeely and Nutley.
