Springfield Police Blotter: Thefts, Vehicle Break-In, More

Target, the Gap, Giant, and AT&T were all targeted by thieves recently, according to Springfield Police. See the full crime blotter here

SPRINGFIELD, PA — The newest Springfield Police crime blotter is out, so check out the details here.

The blotter includes incidents that occurred in the township between Feb. 4 and Feb. 8.

Police said Target, the Gap, Giant, and AT&T were all targeted by thieves in that time frame.

Feb. 4, 9:08 p.m.
AT&T Wireless, 778 W. Sproul Road, reported a retail theft. Employees witnessed a male looking around the store. He attempted to pull several phones from their security devices and fled the store with an IPhone 6S Plus valued at $550. A description was provided and officers checked the area without locating the suspect. Det. Nutley is investigating.

Feb. 5, 6:39 p.m.
Target security, 1200 Baltimore Pike, reported a retail theft. Obinna Chuku, 33, of Philadelphia, was observed removing the packaging from two electric razors and concealing the items. He attempted to leave the store without paying and was stopped by security. Total amount of the theft was $119. Chuku was searched after arrest and found to be in possession of marijuana. He will be charged will retail theft and drug possession. Det. Nutley is handling the case.

Feb. 5, 7:27 p.m.
A suspicious person was reported in the 400 block of Barker Road. Officer Scott Francis located Kenneth Hastings, 26, of Clifton Heights. Hastings was identified and found to have a warrant out of Cumberland County for false reports to police. He was taken into custody and later transported to Delaware County Prison.

Feb. 7, 7:21 a.m.
An employee at Harlee Manor Nursing Home, 463 W. Sproul Road, reported damage to her vehicle. After working overnight, the employee found the two holes in the rear window of her car, which had been parked in the lot. Nothing was stolen.

Feb. 8, noon
While on a patrol detail, Sgt. Pat McKenna observed a suspicious male in the area of the Parkway Inn, 675 Baltimore Pike. Officers watched the male enter room #117. Staff at the motel provided officers with the occupant’s information and it was determined that the male had two active arrest warrants. Officers made contact with Chris Stierli, 57, of Clifton Heights, in room #117. He was turned over to Clifton Heights police and is facing forgery charges.

Feb. 8, 3 p.m.
The Giant Food Store, 721 W. Sproul Road, reported of a retail theft. The suspect fled the area in a vehicle with $521 in stolen merchandise. Descriptions of the suspect and vehicle were provided. Officer Dennis McPartland observed the vehicle parked in the Springfield Shopping Center near Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop, 141 S State Road. The suspect, 26 years old from Morton, was located inside Capriotti’s and police identified him. The Giant store manager said similar thefts have been occurring at their stores in the area and information is still being gathered. The suspect was released from the scene pending further investigation. Sgt. John DiTrolio is handling the case.

Feb. 8, 3:38 p.m.
Target security, 1200 Baltimore Pike, reported a retail theft. A 16 year old from Philadelphia was observed concealing boots and socks in bags and attempting to leave the store without paying. Total value of the theft was $119. She was cited for retail theft and released to her mother.

Feb. 8, 5:42 p.m.
The Gap Store, 1250 Baltimore Pike, reported receiving counterfeit currency. An employee rung up transactions for two male customers whom she believes were together. She later discovered that both used counterfeit money totaling $400. The first male used nine $20 bills. The second male used two $100 bills and one $20 bill. Descriptions were provided and the bills turned over to police. Det. Robert Nutley is handling the investigation.

Feb. 8, 9:15 p.m.
Target security, 1200 Baltimore Pike, reported a retail theft. Theodore Williams II, 47, of Washington DC, was observed placing a sound bar speaker and several DVDs into a shopping cart and attempting to leave the store without paying. Total value of the theft was $488. Williams II was placed under arrest for retail theft. Det. Nutley is handling the case.
