Standing Ovation for Lt. William Clark

Commissioners commended Lt. William Clark upon his retirement for his outstanding 36-year career with the police department and generous humanitarian efforts in the township and county.

The honored Lt. William F. Clark with a plaque Tuesday night commending him for his 36 years of service with the upon his retirement.

First Ward Commissioner Michael Culp noted that Clark has lived in his entire life; He attended St. Francis of Assisi School, Monsignor Bonner High School and St. Joseph's.

Lt. Clark is a U.S. Army veteran having served in Vietnam. He joined the police department in 1975, was promoted to patrol sergeant in 1979 then lieutenant in 1999.

He trained at the prestigious FBI National Academy.

Delaware County Councilman Thomas McGarrigle congratulated Clark on behalf of the county.

Clark has been a dedicated lifetime member of the , having responded to over 1,000 medical calls, McGarrigle said.

He served as Deputy Commander of the Central Delaware County Tactical Response Team and was a founding member of the Delaware County Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation. Clark helped construct the memorial at Rose Tree Park.

"It's a true honor to have him as part of this community," McGarrigle, of Springfield, said. "He's generously contributed time, energy and resources."

McGarrigle noted that Clark often participated in charity work, collecting food and clothes for the less-fortunate.

"He's been a friend and advocate throughout the community," said Board President Jeffrey Rudolph, Fifth Ward commissioner. "He's a model citizen and a great worker."

Clark was brief and humble in accepting praise.

He attributed his successes to being "a product of Springfield."

"Thank you all for the recognition," he said. "It [36 years] went by fast."

Commissioners and attendees applauded him with a standing ovation.
