Whose Walmart Is It?

The call-and-response of the Walmart cheer asks, “Whose Walmart is it?”

Met with “My Walmart!”

It’s been referred to as “Marple’s Walmart in Springfield” and “Springfield’s Walmart in Marple.”

But, seriously, whose Walmart is it?

The map above shows Springfield in red and Marple in purple. A square, on the purple side, is the new superstore’s location.

Although the new Walmart has a Springfield mailing address and is serviced by the , it is officially in the Township of Marple.

So who gets the tax revenue benefit? Marple Township.

Springfield Assistant Township Manager Susan Warner said Springfield gets tax revenue from the , and the , but not the or Walmart in the .

Springfield will undoubtedly share in the new store’s affect on the area, with increased traffic bringing more potential for vehicle accidents and further need for police and fire resources.

How will this need for additional police and fire resources be handled?

Warner said the South State Road (US Route 1) entrance/exit to the shopping center is the juristiction of and . Marple Township Police Department often responds to situations there as well.

The Marple Walmart has been of great interest to Springfield Patch readers in the past few weeks.

Is it Springfield’s Walmart, too?

Sure shoppers from all over the county have likely checked it out since its . We're not limited to shop in our own neighborhoods and Walmart will glady accept business from anyone.

Municipal boundaries don't necessarily shape the borders of a community.
