MUSIC & ART at FRESH GROUND Coffee House on Feb. 22!

On Feb. 22, the crossroads of Neil Young, Billy Joel, James Taylor, Bruce Cockburn and more, meet at FRESH GROUND Coffee House with Mark Meed & Friends!  At FRESH GROUND Coffee House you'll find delicious coffee, teas, baked goods, LIVE music and fine art - the entire evening is FREE.  Ourevents are on the 4th Friday of every month, and feature a different "flavor" of music each month - the region's best performers, here, in Willow Grove!

Mark Meed returns to FRESH GROUND with his signature sound, Canada-dry humor and top-line accompanying musicians and singers.  More on Meed: a child of the Canadian military (that’s right, he’s the one), spent most of his formative years on smallish clumps of igneous rock surrounded by barbed-wire and tundra. Apart from teaching him the wisdom of not putting your tongue on a frozen shovel it also afforded him abundant time to devote to guitar playing – if only to keep his hands warm.

Determined to find warmer climes, he became a fixture (which still evokes unpleasant associations with Moen faucets in his mind) in the Ottawa and Toronto folk and pop music scenes in the 70’s and 80’s, during which time, by virtue of his size and tattoos, he was voted the musician least likely to be rushed by disgruntled fans. This was no small advantage at a time when coffee-houses were giving way to bars, and musicians used the bonhomie of places with names like “The Puce Puffin” were finding themselves in the Last Chance Tavern in Little Porcupine. In fifteen years of playing such places Meed developed a style and repertoire that drew from many influences including blues, ragtime, old-timey/bluegrass, reggae as well as folk and pop. This reflected both his eclectic musical tastes and a healthy sense of self-preservation. Sometimes being able to play “Stand By Your Man” in Gunshot Falls, Manitoba is more valuable than a tattoo.

Our featured and exclusive artist is photographer Chris Whitney of Whitney Landscapes in Bucks County: Chris, an army brat who grew up on military bases from Alaska to Germany, resides in his 42nd home in Bucks County. He found his calling after marrying a photographer's daughter in 1978. A Certified Professional Photographer for the past 20 years he has become primarily known for his portraits of families, children and business leaders, particularly of his hand-printed black and white images.
