Car Thief Caught After Crashing Stolen SUV, Cops Say

Hatboro man charged in theft of vehicle from outside an Upper Southampton gym last week.

A Hatboro man has been charged with multiple felonies after police say he stole a Chevy Suburban parked outside of Retro Fitness last week.

Brandyn Marcarian, 26, was charged with theft, receiving stolen property, unauthorized use of automobiles, driving with a suspended license and providing false identification to law enforcement.

Police said the charges stem from the theft of a 2006 Chevrolet Suburban from the parking lot of the Hampton Square Shopping Center on April 8.

According to the arrest affidavit, the owner of the Suburban parked her car in the lot, then hung her keys on the hooks near the office of Retro Fitness while she worked out. She told police that when she finished her workout, both her keys and her car were missing.

Philadelphia Police recovered the vehicle following a single-car crash on the 4600 block of Arendell Avenue later the same evening, police said.

Police said Marcarian was driving the car at the time of the crash, but he did not have a license and that he gave a phony last name to the responding officer.

Marcarian was arraigned by District Justice Michael Burns and sent to Bucks County Correctional Facility on 10 percent of $15,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, April 25 at 1 p.m. in District Justice William Benz's Richboro courtroom.
