Another "Income Tax Day" Comes and Goes - How Many More Years Will the American People be Punished by Their Government?

A System of Taxation Which Ties the Citizenry Into Knots, Punishing Wage-Earners, Savers, and Investors

When I entered the Downtown Pittsburgh area the morning of 15 April, I saw two individuals holding a banner near Point State Park which contained the word, “taxes”.  I was confident that the protesters were using our infamous annual Income Tax Day to bring to the attention of the public our patently absurd, convoluted, bizarre Internal Revenue Service Code, but no, the pitch was to question why UPMC does not pay taxes (a misleading premise).

 

When will Americans say that we have had enough of the Tax Code which ties us into knots each year, wasting hundreds of billions of precious dollars and hours of our time?

The late U. S. Treasury Secretary William E. Simon said it all with the following quote, “The nation should have a tax system that looks like someone designed it on purpose”.

Imagine the jolt our lagging economy would experience if a system of tax simplification were initiated over the objections of the myriad lobbyists that would come out of the woodwork if it appeared that their special interest ox could be gored.  Would Congress and the president ever have the fortitude to remove the noose placed around the necks of the American people through our metastasizing Tax Code?  It is not likely, as we have the finest government money can buy.
