Hit the Snooze Button...It's OK!
Do you feel guilty hitting the snooze button? Did you ever think you're body is trying to tell you something? Maybe it's time to listen!

I hit the snooze button this morning — a lot. It was odd. 5:45 is my time. I jump out of bed with enthusiasm. (I’ve just annoyed a lot of you…I know. I annoy my family too.) But I like to get up because I get to exercise. This is the only time of my day that is completely mine. I relish my three mile walk around the neighborhood or on the treadmill while watching the Ellen Show on the DVR. It’s my meditation, prayer, planning, and personal pep talk time. But I couldn’t do it this morning. My body over ruled the alarm. “Smack”…”Smack”….”Smack”…I wasn’t budging.
I was listening to my body. I needed sleep even more than my need for exercise. We don’t do this often enough. Our bodies send us all kinds of signals, pain being the most obvious. But even with pain, we look for a painkiller and keep doing what we’re doing. My body sent me a sleepy signal. I must have needed to rest.
Sleep restores. Specific functions, like healing and growing, don’t happen unless we sleep. If you’ve ever noticed your children sleeping more than usual, they’re probably growing. Our bodies need to go into sleep mode so energy can be devoted to cell repair and keeping the immune system strong. Sleep is a major component to our wellness.
