Joe Flacco's Exclamation
Unfortunate and Inappropriate, but not Unexpected to Hear Profanity at the Super Bowl
It is regrettable that profanity was used on live television upon the conclusion of the Super Bowl, but if there is anything to be said in defense of Joe Flacco for his X-rated exclamation, it is that when coarse, crude, and offensive language is part of one's regular vocabulary, there are likely to be occasions on which it slips out when inappropriate.
Flacco is a professional athlete, not someone who works in an environment in which individuals are expected to be calm, cool, and dignified. The demeanor and language that he exhibited after one of the most satisfying victories of his career are what is the norm on the playing field.
Late comedienne Phyllis Diller delivered a great line in one of her hilarious routines, and I apply it to the Flacco incident: "There's no excuse, but there are a lot of reasons."
It is unfortunate that children had to hear such language, but it is the nature of the beast and the nature of a society in which, sadly, anything goes.
