USC Couples Olympics
A fundraiser created by USCHS students to support the Special Olympics.
Upper St. Clair High School students and recent graduates are joining the Olympic excitement by running a game-filled fundraiser. The USC Couples Olympics is an event planned by rising senior Aidan Leahy and Class of 2012 graduate Paige Gillen. The funds raised by participants and donors will benefit the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania.
Leahy and Gillen said they first thought a couples olympics would be a fun way to get involved in all of the hype stirred up by this summer’s Games in London. They soon realized that their plans could be used to raise awareness and collect funds for an important cause- the Special Olympics.
The USC Couples Olympics will be held on August 5 at the Eisenhower field at 3 pm. Following a mini “opening ceremony,” couples will complete in cleverly designed events, such as the Sandwich Sprint and Wheelbarrow Relay. All events will test the couples’ communication, athleticism, and cooperation.

Couples will be grouped into countries, medals will be awarded at the completion of all events, and the “country” that claims the gold will also be awarded with a special prize.

There is a $25 entry fee for each high-school age couple, and 100% of the funds raised will go directly to the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania. A few volunteers will be needed to help with set up and clean up before and after the event. Make a donation, no matter what size!
