he mortality rate in the United States – and for all people everywhere – is 100%, but we rarely talk about death or how to prepare for the inevitable. And yet when we learn of a life threatening illness – our own or that of a friend or loved one – the first question we ask is, “What am I to do?”
On May 15, Donna Authers, writer of A Sacred Walk: Dispelling the Fear of Death and Caring for the Dying will present The Caregivers Challenge. Knowing what to do for others must match the circumstances, and a dramatic life-changing diagnosis will prompt a mix of responses – practical, emotional, and spiritual. Authers draws on the many real-life situations she has encountered to offer answers at every level to the challenging question posed.
As someone who feared death for most of her adult life and a cancer survivor herself, Authers draws from the miraculous story of how her fear was broken by her grandmother’s faith. In truth, the fear of death is universal, and all too often it robs us of the joy we should find in the living.

A Sacred Walk is far more about living than dying, offering encouragement to both caregiver and care receiver. This is an excellent book for small-group discussion or to leave at one's bedside, and most certainly to keep desk center for quick reference.”
