Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra concert

The Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra is thrilled to announce its annual Young Artist Competition winners’ concert on Saturday, April 6, 2013.  This year the PCO musicians will be joined by three student musicians: Rishi Mirchandani, a student of Luz Manriquez, is a sophomore at Fox Chapel High School; he will be playing the first movement of Edvard Grieg’s stirring Piano Concerto in A minor.  Adele Grabowski, mezzo-soprano, is a second year undergraduate at Carnegie Mellon University studying voice performance and global studies.  Her voice teacher is CMU professor Mildred Miller Posvar, and she will be performing selections from Rossini’s The Barber of Seville and Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro. Inori Sakai is a junior at The Ellis School and studies with Hong-Guang Jia, assistant concertmaster of The Pittsburgh Symphony; Inori is the concertmaster of The Pittsburgh Symphony Youth Orchestra, and she will be performing the first movement of Jean Sibelius’ soulful Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47.


 


You won’t want to miss this concert that opens with Beethoven’s beloved Symphony No. 6,Pastoral.” After intermission, our Young Artists take center stage to conclude what is arguably the orchestra members’ favorite concert of the year. The concert will take place at the Upper St. Clair High School Theater, 1825 McLaughlin Run Road in Upper St. Clair, a facility that is totally handicapped accessible.  Start time for the concert is 7:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the door.  Prices range from $15.00 for adults, $10.00 for seniors, $5.00 for students 13 and older, and children 12 and under are free.  Group rates are available.  For more information call 412-279-4030 or visit the PCO’s website at www.pittsburghcivicorchestra.org
