BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —One of the main stations along SEPTA's Trenton Line will be receiving a major upgrade.

U.S. Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick said that part of Amtrak's $10 billion in Federal Railroad Administration funds include a "significant investment" for upgrades at the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) Cornwells Heights Station in Bensalem Township.

The Cornwells Heights Station will receive $30.5 million in platform and accessibility upgrades as one of 12 critical infrastructure projects along the Northeast Corridor, which includes Bucks and Montgomery counties, Fitzpatrick said.

The Trenton Line has stops in Bucks County from Trenton to Philadelphia at the following stations: the Levittown and Bristol stations in Bristol Township, the Croydon Station in Croydon, the Eddington Station in Bensalem, and the Cornwells Heights Station in Bensalem.

“Intercity passenger rail and regional public transportation connect Bucks and Montgomery Counties to one another, the Commonwealth, and the entire Northeast region," the congressman said.

He said the grant announcement awarding funding to Amtrak and SEPTA means more jobs, faster service, and sturdier infrastructure for train commuters and the communities that serve them.

“With funding from this grant, SEPTA will be making a major investment at Cornwells Heights Station —one that not only will make the station fully accessible but also improve operational efficiency and customer convenience," SEPTA Board Chairman Pasquale T. Deon Sr. said.

Fitzpatrick said the investments include millions in project planning throughout Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor and that the grants are essential to keeping America’s infrastructure, workforce, and economy strong.

“These grants will help advance Amtrak’s plans to modernize the Northeast Corridor and unlock major bottlenecks on the busiest passenger rail corridor in America,” Amtrak CEO Stephen Gardner said.
