BUCKS COUNTY, PA —It's the Christmas weekend.

For most people, this is a three-day holiday weekend with Christmas falling on Monday. And while many of us will be celebrating the holiday with family and friends, let's harken back for a moment to someone who didn't share in the merriment that day —someone who was seeking an opportunity to change his fortunes.

Of course, we're talking about George Washington and his Christmas Day sneak attack on the Hessians in Trenton, N.J., a battle that turned the tide somewhat in the Revolutionary War.

So before you go to grandma's house, maybe stop and see this re-enactment taking place Monday and watch the good general and his troops cross the mighty —and then icy —Delaware River.

You might also want to bask in the glow of holiday lights to get you in the mood before you see George.

A Christmas Story at the Bristol Riverside Theatre

The classic movie comes to life on stage at the Bristol Riverside Theatre. In 1940s Indiana, a young, bespectacled Ralphie schemes his way toward the holiday gift of his dreams, an official Red Ryder Carbine-Action 200-Shot Range Model Air Rifle. An infamous leg lamp, an outrageous set of pink bunny pajamas, a maniacal department store Santa, and a triple-dog-dare to lick a freezing flagpole are just a few of the obstacles that stand between Ralphie and his Christmas wish. Catch the performance through the end of the year.
