BUCKS COUNTY, PA —As summer officially nears, it's time to get outdoors. With the weather warming up in Bucks County, there are plenty of activities to enjoy nature, festivals and markets, sand castles, history tours, and concerts.

You can teach your kids how to get in touch with nature during a free nature celebration on Saturday. Or enjoy a symphony orchestra performance in the twilight. And, of course, sand castle sculptures make us long for yesteryear, using our own shovels and buckets to create childhood masterpieces.

Free Nature Celebration For Families at Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve

Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve in New Hope is celebrating nature Saturday, June 10, with The Preserve @ Play. This new annual event celebrates families getting outside and learning about nature with their budding naturalists. And there's free admission for families with children 14 and under all day. Child-friendly activities run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year's theme is "Birds & Blooms" and features games, woodland crafts, sensory exploration, refreshments, live music, and a bird demonstration. Newtown Welcome Day Offers 'Street Fair With Flair' Sunday

Newtown’s "street fair with flair" returns Sunday with a day packed with family fun, food, and live entertainment.

“Newtown Welcome Day” —presented by Capital Health and organized by the Newtown Business Association —takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday rain or shine along Sycamore Street between Jefferson Street and Durham Road.

Throughout the event, there will be plenty of food options available, said Poritsky, spotlighting Sycamore Street eateries including Newtown Pizza, La Stalla Market, the Green Parrot, Meglio, Jules Thin Crust, Love Bird, Sycamore Street Grill and Greenstraw Smoothies. There's also Best Darn Kettle Korn, Playa Bowls, and a funnel cake vendor to satisfy tastebuds. (Read this Patch story for more information)

Warminster Symphony Orchestra Performing Free Concert In Park Sunday

There will be music in the air Sunday night, and hopefully no more smoke from the Canadian wildfires.

The Warminster Township Parks and Recreation is presenting its 2023 Concert in the Park at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 11. The "Evening with The Pops" features the Warminster Symphony Summer Pops Orchestra led by Music Director/Conductor Joseph Lovecchio.

The free event takes place at the Hallowell Pavilion, Warminster Community Park, 1100 Veterans Way. Bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the Twilight concert. Picnic tables will be available in the viewing area for anyone wishing to hold a "bring-your-own picnic-style dinner." Snacks and drinks will also be available for purchase.

Yardley Historical Association Hosting Open House Sunday

Discover what is in the Old Library by Lake Afton at the Yardley Historical Association Open House and Annual Meeting. The gathering will be held on Sunday, June 11, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Old Library by Lake Afton, 46 West Afton Ave.

This year fascinating and often astounding photographs and documents have been discovered while work is being undertaken to better organize the Association’s collection of materials related to Yardley’s past. Handmade scrapbooks, a high school autograph book with funny rhymes written in lovely cursive, photographs of disasters and places are now gone, letters, and maps will be on display.

The Annual Meeting of the Yardley Historical Association will also be held during the final hour.
A short report of 2022 accomplishments will be given and board members and officers will be elected. Wine, cheese, and goodies will accompany the meeting.

The public is welcome to attend to see pieces of Yardley’s past and find out about the Old Library and the work of the Historical Association. Reservations are not needed.

Area residents looking for one-of-a-kind artisan gifts for themselves or others can check out McConkey’s Market on Saturday, June 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Washington Crossing Historic Park. McConkey’s Market attracts thousands of attendees to its eclectic mix of vendors who sell artisan crafts, up-cycled items, handmade jewelry, original art and photography, pottery, vintage clothing, reclaimed furniture, and collectibles. Stories in Sand at Peddler's Village in Lahaska All Summer Long

Celebrate summer vibes with larger-than-life sand sculptures that celebrate favorite stories.

For the second year, Peddler’s Village in Lahaska is hosting a major summer-long event featuring large sand sculptures. Free and open to the public through Aug. 31, "Stories in Sand" showcases six exceptionally tall sculptures created by three world-renowned master sand sculptors —from 60 tons of sand.

The spectacular sculptures pay homage to stories and characters revered for generations: Brothers Grimm fairy tales, Peter Pan, The Jungle Book, Winnie-the-Pooh, Mother Goose stories, and Alice in Wonderland. Sandboxes designed for family play will also be placed throughout the property.
