9/11 Flag Memorial, Service Wednesday In Warminster

The Hartsville Fire Company will pay its respects at its York Road fire station to those who perished in the Sept. 11 attacks on America.

WARMINSTER, PA —The Hartsville Fire Company will hold its annual 9/11 remembrance Wednesday, on the 23rd anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on America.

The fire company will begin the tribute with a flag memorial service, which includes its display of 403 American flags on the front lawn of its fire station at 1195 York Rd. The display will be featured all day for anyone to come to the fire station and pay their respects.

The flags are for 343 New York City firefighters, 37 New York Port Authority officers, and 23 New York Police Department officers who died on Sept. 11, 2001.

Two additional flags will represent volunteer firefighters John Kulick and Tristan Smith, who were killed in action in Iraq.

"Although emergency responders are foremost in our thoughts and prayers, we wish to remember everyone who lost their lives in New York City, Washington, D.C., and in Shanksville," the fire company said.

A memorial service is planned for 7 p.m. Wednesday and will include a reading of the names of the fallen firefighters and police officers.

The public is invited and attendees are encouraged to assist with reading the names and retrieving the flags.
